guerilla Magazine | vintage articles: TV, tats, tunes + art
Published quarterly online (and frequently in print) from March 2004 to July 2014, guerilla was Writer/Artist Tony Martins’ labour of love that explored “Ottawa [Ontario, Canada] culture at ground level.”
Tony offered me my own column called “Charger” after wrapping up Shotgun column series for The Ottawa XPress.
I was showcased in a couple of articles about The Letters: Rediscovering the Art of Courtship TV show I hosted and my Hoxton Square Circles book launch in 2001. Expanding into writing a few feature pieces about tattoos, musicians and art, check out a few here:
“How To Host a TV Show” | exclusive piece about my hosting a TV show out in Western Canada.

“3 Writers, Photographers and Tattooers” | As a way to thank my tattoo artist Dan Alliston of New Moon Tattoos, Ottawa, Tony came up with the creative idea to pair 3 Writers with 3 Tattoo Artists. Mine was Dan’s and I ended up buying the gorgeous print of Jimmy Gobeil photographed by Ben Welland.

“Hard-core, Slow-mo: Andrew Tweedy“ | Tweedy, of Buried Inside, sat down to talk about his solo project, a departure from the fervour of his metal band but with all the right stuff.

“Secrets of the Artful Self-Promoter” | Lessons centred on the huge role community plays in encouraging and supporting art in Ottawa.

“Sexual Poetics Caught on Tape“ | Tony Martins interviewed me about my spoken-word poetry featured in a documentary by Nichole McGill and Rick Kaulbars.
