HELPING IN OTTAWA
Past decades saw me active in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada), contributing to a thriving arts community. I emceed at various local events, including festivals, Mustaches for Kids and Make A Wish Foundation, and Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary Celebration & 9th Annual Write For Rights.
I was also the 2015 Curator for WESTFEST Lit – Adults Only, a sold-out affair featuring five wonderful local and Montreal literary performers. Huge shout-out to Elaina Martin who invited me back year after year! Their leadership, warmth and encouragement is mind-blowing — Elaina nurtured my talents in so many ways for so many years and continues to help lift up so many artists and creatives. Learn more here.
Even while in Montreal, my love for Ottawa and willingness to help the arts community remains! So in 2021, the committee for the City of Ottawa Book Awards for non-fiction reached out and invited me to be a juror (The list of books was fantastic, and I highly recommend One Good Reason: A Memoir of Addiction and Recovery, Music and Love, and The Taste of Longing: Ethel Mulvany and Her Starving Prisoners of War Cookbook)!
